Children Tae Kwon Do / HAPKIDO Class (7-12 years)

In this course we teach children the full-blown martial arts training. Discipline, self-control, respect, and exercise are greatly emphasized. Although this course is much more serious than the tykes class it can be a lot of fun.

Children who train at least 3 days a week are elgible for belt testing. Belt testing keeps the children motivated and focused on their training and gives them an easily attainable goal provided they put forth an honest effort. Sparring sessions are also a part of the course and are very light contact to ensure no injuries take place. Although the matches are controlled by the acting instructor just like any sport occasional someone does get a bump, bruise or scratch. Usually nothing serious.

New students are not permitted to spar becuse of our strict policy. A student has to be training on a regular basis for at least a month or until they have proven to the instructor that they have developed basic defensive skills. Head gear is mandatory as well as groin protectors for male students (for sparring only). It is suggested that students wear as much padding as possible to insure that sparring sessions stay as fun as possible, the way they should be. Children who don't like team sports usually take better liking to martial arts because of the individualism involved. Through this individualism they eventually work better with other children and people because they develop a state of self-respect and self-worth.

Each session is 30-40 Minutes in length.
